City of Newark Identification Card Terms and Conditions
As a City of Newark identification cardholder, I understand that:
- The Newark Id Card (NMIC) is solely used by residents of the City of Newark
- NMIC is issued to assist in the identification of the valid cardholder for the purposes of obtaining services from the City of Newark and at the discretion of businesses within the City of Newark.
- NMIC card is valid for a term of 2 years from date of issuance.
- NMIC is non-transferable.
- Altering or intentionally damaging the Newark Municipal Identification Card, using another person's Newark Municipal Identification Card, or allowing the card holder’s Newark Municipal Identification Card to be used by another person may result in confiscation of the card and violation of N.J.S.A. 2C: 28-7.
- The card holder is responsible for paying any replacement fee when an NMIC is lost, stolen, confiscated, or intentionally damaged, or when any information is changed at cardholder’s request.
- Cardholder should notify the City of Newark immediately if a card is lost or stolen.
- Relocation out of the City of Newark invalidates the card and shall be returned to the City for destruction. Any use in violation shall forfeit any application of the Newark Identification card.
Application Fee Schedule:
- New Application: $ 15
- Card information change: $ 7
- Card lost, Stolen or Damaged: $10
- Senior / Child $ 7
- If applicants are unable to pay the $ 15 fee, then a financial Hardship Affidavit must be attached with the application for review.
All applicants must meet the following criteria to apply for the Newark ID Card: Upon arrival at the enrollment site person(s)
will be handed The Newark ID application. Applicant must have two or more documents from each category listed below. Once application is completed, a staff member
shall review all documents received from applicants for accuracy.
Validation and verification process of the 6 Points System:
Requires at least 4 points proving of Identity and 2 points proving of residency
The Minimum age requirement to apply for Newark ID Card is 14.
Four (4) point documents- proof of Identity/Residency
- State of New Jersey Motor Vehicles Driver’s License
- State of New Jersey Identification Card with photo
Three (3 point documents- proof of Identity
- Consular ID Card with photograph
- Visa (current)
- National identification card (Must have photo, name, address, date of birth and expiration date
- U.S. or Foreign Passport
- US Permanent resident (Green –Card)
- U.S. Citizenship and Naturalization Certificate
Two (2) point documents- proof of Identity
- Driver's License/Foreign Driver's license (Current - NOT expired)
- U.S. or Foreign military identification card
- Birth Certificate (U.S. or Foreign)
- Proof of a minor enrolled in public or private school
Two (2) point documents- proof of Residency
- Utility bill with name and address
- Cable bill
- Phone bill (Landline)
One (1) point documents- proof of Identity
- ITIN card (must be accompanied by an ID with a photograph)
- Written verification issued by a family member, churches, hospitals, health care, social services, homeless shelter. (MUST BE NOTORIZED)
One (1) point documents- proof of Residency
- Insurance bill, bank statement, check book
- Employment pay stub
- Local property tax statement
Original documents from a health or social services organization such as, Social Worker, churches, shelter, Family Member (in Care of) attesting to the the fact that the applicantis a Newark resident.
